Southampton Saints Girls under 10s are celebrating winning a brand new football kit, thanks to the Woolston funeral directors B Matthews.
The team at the Portsmouth Road branch chose the youth side as the winner of their sponsorship competition, which called on the local community to nominate a school team, community group, football club or league side that they thought would most benefit from a brand new strip.
Delighted members of the Southampton team, who were previously playing in an eight-year-old kit, received the new B Matthews-branded away strip just after their recent practice.
Victoria Nethercott, funeral director at B Matthews, said, “We were inundated with nominations for different teams in the area but we were really struck by the nominations given for the Southampton Saints Girls under 10s. The team have been struggling for sponsorship, despite their talent and enthusiasm, so we were very happy to provide a kit for them.”
The squad are managed by Greg Bowers who said, “The girls eat, sleep and breathe football, so they were over the moon when I told them that we had won. They love playing together and are really committed to the team. The new kit has really lifted their spirits and they can’t wait to play their next league match in it.”
Part of the Laurel Funerals collective of funeral businesses, B Matthews has been part of the Woolston and wider Southampton community for over 54 years and the team take great pride in supporting local people in any way they can.
Victoria said, “Over the past few months we have really enjoyed going through the nominations and getting to know all the clubs in the area. We are delighted to be able to offer help to such a talented and worthwhile local team and would like to thank everyone who took the time to come into the branch and nominate. We look forward to following the fortunes of the Southampton Saints Girls under 10s this season.
